Lung Cancer Facts

What are the types of Lung Cancer?

The two major types of lung cancer are non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC).

NSCLC includes adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and neuroendocrine tumors. NSCLC tends to grow slower than SCLC and is the majority of cases.

SCLC is the minority of cases but tends to grow quicker.

How dangerous is lung cancer?

Lung cancer is the #1 cancer-killer in both men and women.

More women die of lung cancer than of breast cancer and colorectal cancer combined.

More men die of lung cancer than prostate and colorectal cancer combined.

See the American Cancer Society for more information. These statistics are true for both the U.S. in general and Nevada in particular.

Why does Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) matter?

At 2 years, 97% of patients with stage 1A are alive (the earliest stage). At 2 years, only 10% of patients with stage 4B are alive (the latest stage).

LCS helps diagnose more patients to be diagnosed at an earlier stage and helps saves lives by facilitating earlier treatment.
